Sunday afternoon art workshop

My workshop yesterday afternoon was devoted to exploring different ways to represent for common things. We played around with different media, but all agreed that the painted paper collage versions of our objects were the most vibrant.

Saturday afternoon collage session with colleagues

These colleagues organized a Saturday afternoon collage class session and it went swimmingly. With copious amounts of cheese and crackers, some red wine, and a great supply of papers to use, these women produced some truly lovely collages ... in addition to having a very good time.

Workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 30 (6:30-8:30PM)

This is one of my favorite collage projects. We play with a bunch of old postcards, transforming them by adding and taking away ... and turning some into small paper 3D works of art.

Jan 30 (Tues), from 6:30-8:30PM Collage Postcards and Altered Postcards

And there are still 3 spots available!

Art Workshops: Jan. 9 and 11

I'm starting a series of great (and very varied) creative workshops next week. I've got TWO spots left in the first--next Tuesday's "Big Block Printing" workshop (Jan. 9) and I've got ONE spot left in next Thursday's "Painted Paper Collage" workshop (Jan. 11). Let me know if you want to join in the fun.

Ringing in the New Year with Big Prints

I'm ringing in the new year with hand-printed New Year's cards and matching envelopes. ❄️ 🎨 . Stay tuned for January workshops that I'll be offering, including one in which we make big stamps and print cards, stand-alone prints, and wrapping paper that's so cool that you won't want to use it.

Joseph Cornell Box Project

I never ever tire of seeing the wonderful art that my students (adults, this time) produce when making Joseph Cornell-inspired assemblages. 🐦 📦.

3D Folk Art Birds

It was "just" another Wednesday evening class, with congenial people hanging out together making whimsical art, and chatting and laughing. It was the third of four sessions of my class at the Arlington Arts Center, called Young at Heart, and we were inspired by Mark Hearld's wonderful 3D bird cards.

Landscapes on Wood

The kiddies make landscapes on wood, inspired by the charming rustic landscapes painted by Cathy McMurray. In one of my recent kids' art classes at the Arlington Arts Center.

Judith Kindler-inspired Portraits

Today the kids finished a portrait project inspired by the work of @judithkindler. Thanks to the women in my book group for saving and donating many small boxes! 📦 📦

Mixed Media Portraits

Awwww, I adore these decorated mixed-media portraits that the 4- to 6-year-olds made in my Handmade Holidays workshop today at the Arlington Arts Center. Using craft sticks, watercolor paint, washi tape, pompoms, and photos taken in class, the kids created these joyous works. Aren't they great?! (It's another project inspired by the creative folks at @artcampla)

Collaborative Cities Architecture Stamp Project

Check out these pics to see what terrific stuff my adult students produced tonight, in the second session of my current class at the Arlington Arts Center, called Young at Heart. Each student made a series of simple stamps of architectural elements, they then shared the stamps and all printed unique cityscapes. Adding color transformed them from somber to super. This was a project I had previously only done with children, but the adults enjoyed it, too!

Howard Finster-style Portraits

In my kids' class, they made portraits of "people who did something awesome". In style, they were inspired by folk/outsider artist Howard Finster (using cardboard, rather than wood for the almost life-sized images, and incorporating text). For those wanting inspiration for whom to depict, I shared the book Rebel Girls. And so we have represented Amelia Earhart, Helen Keller, Anne Frank, and Hillary Clinton. But the 7- to 10-year-olds also represented Jimi Hendrix, Art Garfunkle, Lady Gaga, and others.

Sets of Magnets Make Holiday Gifts

he sets of magnets that participants in my Handmade Holidays workshop at the Arlington Arts Center made tonight were both fun and artsy and ... and surprisingly polished looking. Here's the work of Heather.

Holiday Card-Making Session

Thanks to Tina for organizing a card-making session with a group of her creative friends ... and with me ... at Carriage House Arts and Crafts. All it takes to arrange a class is to find three friends and book an evening. I provide all of the supplies.
